LIONEL MESSI is struggling for fitness ahead of the Champions League opener in Barcelona against Celtic next week.

This may be music to a lot of Celtic fans ears but I’d rather Celtic play against Messi than not.

The Barcelona and Argentina star has an issue with his left hamstring that has hampered his International week and the Argentina coach fears he may be out longer.

“Leo is in pain, unfortunately he will not be able to play the next game,” he said following the player’s first game back after reversing his decision to retire from international football. “He has an inflammation and we cannot take risks. We were talking with him, with the doctor, and it is advisable to rest.” said Edgardo Bauza.

Barcelona have a rich pool of talent and will no doubt be able to deliver without their talisman but we’re in the Champions League and we’re here to play against the very best, and in my honest opinion Messi is the best. The game will be poorer without him.

If he doesn’t make the Nou Camp fixture we hope to see him come to Paradise where he can be humbled again, maybe.
