Very rarely did Celtic splash out cash on two big signings in one season under Peter Lawwell. In recent memory, the only loan signing we’ve turned into a big money permanent move has been Odsonne Edouard. To be fair, the Frenchman still is our most expensive signing at £9m.

Could Michael Nicholson be set to buck that trend and price he’s his own man when it comes to being chief executive of the football club?

Given Michael’s close proximity to Peter Lawwell over his time at Celtic – the appointment did nothing to quell the fear the former Celtic chief executive wasn’t having a say in the way things are being run.

The first real sign of change was January when Celtic had three Japanese bhoys, under three separate deals signed, sealed and delivered before the window had even opened.

Compare and contrast to the many January windows where Peter would penny pinch and haggle until we got our player either very late on or not at all.

If Nicholson can help deliver Jota and CCV many supporters will feel a massive corner has been turned when it comes to how Celtic do business.

Michael has to carry the can as chief executive – is he doing things his way after disagreeing with some of Peter’s less positive qualities?

Signing one or both of our loan stars would be great to see and show real intent as we head into the Champions League. The Celtic chief executive helped deliver players early and saw them all contribute to the title we’ve just won. If you put down the money up front, you can be rewarded.
