On the eve of what is shaping up to be one of the most tense Celtic AGMs in years, the Celtic Fan Collective has issued its latest “time has expired” statement, this time aimed directly at chief executive Michael Nicholson.

Supporter frustration has steadily intensified throughout a turbulent season marked by poor communication, declining performances and deepening anger towards the club’s hierarchy.

Having already declared their opposition to several long-standing board members, the Collective has now turned its attention to the man at the top of the day-to-day operation at Celtic Park.

Yesterday, Dermot Desmond and Peter Lawwell were on the receiving ends of statements, but today it’s moved on.

Nicholson has been accused of lacking leadership, vision and authority at a time when the club is crying out for clarity and direction.

They wrote: “Michael Nicholson’s position as CEO is no longer credible. His tenure has been defined by weak leadership, poor communication and an inability to articulate any meaningful vision for Celtic. At a time when the club needs clarity, confidence and ambition, Nicholson has looked out of his depth. He promised supporters that he wants Celtic to be ‘world class in everything we do’. Under his guidance, the club is mediocre in almost all areas.

“A Celtic CEO should be visible, authoritative and capable of engaging openly with supporters. Nicholson’s unwillingness to communicate has left the fanbase feeling ignored, detached and devalued. His record on fan issues is appalling.

“These shortcomings were brutally exposed at the meeting with the Celtic Fans Collective. He struggled to answer basic questions, failed to explain the club’s direction and appeared completely overwhelmed by the demands of the role. His lack of ambition was underlined further when he stated he believed Celtic’s recent European record is satisfactory.

“Celtic needs a leader who is ambitious, communicative and relentless in pushing the continual improvement of all aspects of the club. Instead, we have a CEO who aims low, accepts mediocrity and is normalising regression at a club that should demand far higher standards than he is delivering.

“Michael — your time at Celtic has expired.”

With the AGM set for tomorrow, fans are making it clear that dissatisfaction with the club’s governance has reached boiling point.

The managerial vacancy, the “Not Another Penny” campaign, long-running disputes with supporter groups, and on-field stagnation have all sharpened focus on the leadership running Celtic behind the scenes.

Whether the board chooses to address any of these concerns publicly at the AGM remains to be seen.

Pressure on the hierarchy has never been higher.

  1. I’m sure Dermot Desmond’s fellow Irish Billionaire, Michael O’Leary of Ryanair, tells jokes about Celtics relationship with their customers.
Dermot Desmond does not a flying f*** about Celtics Customers. He’s a fan of the O** F*** and recognises it as a requirement of his business model ( the fable of him being annoyed at a semi final defeat by Sevco is a fable planted by PL) Desmond owns the business. It’s his ball. He can do what he likes with it and the customers don’t like it they don’t need to stay customers. This is a man who bought the business out of curiosity as his muckers JP McManus and John Magnier had their Irish avenue cred and investment with MUFCi. Desmond bought the business in a sweetheart deal structured by Celtic CEO forever Peter Lawwell without having to buy the majority shareholding. Was guaranteed £200,000 a year in perpetuity. Nearly as nice a no brainer investment as Sir David Murray only Murray used BOS for his £6m sure thing.
Dermot Desmond ain’t going anywhere anytime soon.
