BBC pundit and former Hearts midfielder, Michael Stewart has been unimpressed by current Celtic number one, Vasilis Barkas.

Speaking on BBC Radio Scotland, the pundit made his thoughts clear on Barkas’ performances at the minute and even suggested that Celtic will be looking at ‘emergency loan’ options in that position come January.

“I’m not going to slaughter him for that third goal but you never see him making a save. He never makes a save. You’ve got to do something.

“He looks like a wee boy in the goals at the moment and he’s playing like that.

“I would not be surprised if Celtic aren’t trying to talk to Southampton right now about getting Fraser Forster back on loan. He’s sitting on the bench.

“I would not be surprised if they are desperately trying to organise an emergency loan for the second half of the season.”

In the last few weeks both Barkas and number two, Scott Bain have come under considerable criticism for their performances in net.

They both haven’t been great but I think it would be fair to say they have been playing with a pretty shambolic defence in front of them in recent months, with players making constant individual errors.

Many fans and pundits like Stewart have suggested a new number one will be a priority for Celtic in January with the name Fraser Forster popping up again.

I’m not sure how likely either of those things will be but it will certainly be an interesting situation to see how the club acts next month.
