Former English Premier League striker and now pundit, Gabby Agbonlahor has said he believes that Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer ‘might get found out’ if he was to make the move down south.

As quoted by the Chronicle Live, the Norweigan has been linked to the likes of Newcastle United and Norwich in recent weeks. However, Agbonlahor doesn’t think Ajer would be ready to move to the English Premier League just yet.

“I think he’s a good player but I don’t see him in the Premier League, to be honest.

“He might get found out in the Premier League. You’ve got to respect how big the Premier League is.

“I’m not sure about that, I don’t think he’s ready for the Premier League yet.

“He wouldn’t get the time on the ball in the Premier League. You can’t be flying forward in the Premier League like he does.”

For the last few seasons, Ajer has become a regular in the Celtic side under both Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon.

From his performances, he has shown the potential he possesses which could take him a long way in football. At the same time though, the 23-year old also has his faults as he continues to learn the game.

If he was to make the move to a Newcastle, it would probably be a little underwhelming with his talent and a move abroad may be better to get that out of him.

Ideally, we could keep Ajer for another season due to the size of rebuild we have. However, we will likely see him depart the club with his contract running down and only having one year remaining come the summer.

  1. The premiership is a much faster league than the premier league. They mostly back off and allow each other time on the ball until you get into the final third in the epl.
