It has been a long and winding road but it looks as if Celtic fans will finally find out whether their charismatic right back, Mikael Lustig will be playing for the club next season with a decision expected next week.

The defender is now out of contract and on international duty with Sweden. According to SunSport, the defender has been offered a new deal by Neil Lennon to stick around a little longer.

Celtic let Mikael’s original contract lapse even though they had the option of a one-year extension. The thought behind the move being Celtic wanted to renegotiate the defender’s deal and presumably pay him lower than what he was on previously.

The same report claims the treble treble winner has offers in Sweden that could tempt him back to his homeland to see out the rest of his career.

The bhoys are due back at Lennoxtown a week on Monday, however, Mikael wouldn’t be due back then if he did sign a new deal with international Celts being allowed extra time off for a break.

  1. I do hope he stays he has been a big part of treble treble and 8 in a row some games he did not look as good but with rest and used when full fitness he is as good as any RB we could buy in O’Donnell and with both Lustig and O’Donnell then that RB slot would be strong…
