RockSport football pundit Gerry Collins made the claim Celtic were looking at Ibrox new boy Filip Helander only for them to seek out information on the Swede from Mikael Lustig who told Celtic NOT to move for him.

Helander joined the Ibrox club last week and in his first interview, he told everyone he knew Rangers through Henrik Larsson when he watched derbies back in the day.

It turns out Helander could’ve been a bhoy but for Lustig’s intervention.

Speaking on RockSport Collins said:

“I hate to be gloom and doom but I believe that and this has come from a good source for me, I believe that Celtic were mentioned and they went to Mikael Lustig about it,” said Gerry Collins [Rocksport, 17/07/19 approx. 05:30 according to Rangers News]

“And they asked Mikael Lustig ‘is it right for Celtic?’ and he said no.”

Mikael didn’t recommend his countryman to the club and they moved on from there. The Scottish champions have since signed Christopher Jullien from Toulouse for a big fee.

Jullien is the most expensive defender in the club’s history to this point and it’s a signing that has excited fans.

As for Helnader and his move to Scotland – It looks like the Ibrox club have Celtic’s sloppy seconds.

They’re used to that!

  1. Was it Lustigs intervention that stopped Celtic signing Ibrox man Joe Aribo.
