Celtic Target Set to Complete Move Elsewhere

Former Celtic-linked midfielder Milán Vitális looks set to continue his career in Greece after arriving in Athens ahead of a move to AEK.

Daily Record reports that the Hungary international has travelled to the Greek capital as the transfer moves closer to completion.

Vitális was credited with attracting interest from Celtic earlier in the summer following an impressive season with Győr.

The Hungarian side enjoyed a surprise championship success, with the 24-year-old’s performances bringing him to the attention of clubs outside his homeland.

There was never any clear sign that Celtic had submitted a formal bid or entered serious talks over a deal.

AEK now appear to have made the strongest move for the midfielder, with Vitális arriving in Athens ahead of the next steps in the transfer.

The expected switch would remove another previously reported option from Celtic’s summer list.

Martin O’Neill is still looking to strengthen his midfield before the transfer window closes, particularly with continued uncertainty around Arne Engels.

Celtic have already been linked with several possible additions in that area, including Mika Baur and Torino midfielder Gvidas Gineitis.

Vitális was always one of the less developed links, with no firm indication that Celtic had taken their interest beyond monitoring the player.

His move to AEK would therefore not necessarily represent a major setback, but it would narrow the pool of midfielders who have been mentioned in connection with Parkhead.

The Hoops remain focused on adding more quality before their Champions League play-off against LASK.

O’Neill has spoken openly about wanting new players through the door, with a midfielder and winger among the main positions Celtic are trying to strengthen.

Vitális now appears set to take a different path, with AEK close to securing a player who had been linked with a possible move to Glasgow earlier in the window.
