JAMES FORREST scored his 100th goal in a Celtic shirt as the Hoops won 6-1 over Hibs on Saturday afternoon.

Postecoglou extended the winger’s contract, and was clear that he wanted the extension to take place and that James would play an important role in the Celtic squad throughout the duration of his contract.

After it was looking like there wasn’t going to be a chance for the winger, some inspiring performances from the bench, aided with some injuries in the wide areas, saw Postecoglou hand Forrest a start on Saturday.

It’s safe to say Forrest didn’t let the manager down.

Postecoglou has insisted today’s performance was the reason why he was keen for the player to extend his stay at the club. The Celtic manager said:

“It’s exactly why we wanted to keep him at this football club. A successful squad is made of many parts. People sometimes don’t understand that, they think it’s just about getting some players together. Everyone makes a different kind of contribution.

“I knew James at some point this year would be an important player for us. He’s been chipping away at it, he hasn’t had a lot of game time. But over the last few weeks, every time he’s come on he’s made an impact. He was ready today and I know there’s more to come.”

James looked a lot sharper today, showing he was willing to cut inside as well as staying wide. It was a classic Forrest performance on Saturday.
