Moritz Jenz was quick to admit Celtic weren’t at their best during their 2-1 victory against Motherwell on Saturday.

The big defender is enjoying some more game time with both Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt out of action.

Celtic deserved their win on Saturday, there’s no doubt about that. They struck the post twice, at multiple near misses and out the ball in the back of their own net to give Motherwell a fighting chance.

We were positive, but also sloppy. Jenz admitted it wasn’t a vintage performance when he took to social media.

Celtic’s Defence

Jenz did well at the beginning of the season when he was paired alongside CCV. Stephen Welsh also performs better with the American defender. Jenz and Welsh together is a very young partnership and maybe lacks a bit of leadership.

There’s no doubt our best defensive pairing is CCV and Starfelt. Cameron is working on his fitness day to day and a call will be made on Tuesday afternoon about whether he travels to Germany. Carl is still a couple of weeks away and will not be part of the Champions League squad this week and beyond.
