MOUSSA DEMBELE left Celtic for a large fee back in 2018. After a fee of about £20 million was agreed between the Parkhead club and Lyon, Celtic also managed to get a sell-on clause included in the terms.
With the Frenchman’s contract running low, with just a year left on it, Celtic was braced for a cash injection if the striker moved on. With the club signing Lacazette, it looked a certainty that Moussa would be departing Lyon this summer.
However, the striker has decided to remain at the club and fight for a place in the starting lineup. [Daily Record]
If Dembele is to leave this summer, Celtic would receive 15% of the fee that Lyon receives. But with Dembele committing to stay for at least another year, Celtic may never receive a sell-on fee, with the striker that was signed by Rodgers potentially signing a pre-contract in six months.
Lyon might try to cash in on the Frenchman still, but Moussa is at least playing hardball.
