NEW SUNDERLAND BOSS Davie Moyes was asked about interest from other clubs during the summer and admitted he took several interviews for the Celtic vacancy once Ronny Deila had admitted hit his attention to leave.

The former Celtic defender was reportedly high up the list to take over from Deila in the summer but nothing really came of it.

Speaking about the Celtic approach, Moyes was very forward.

“I met Celtic and I know the people very well.” said the former United boss.

“They spoke to me several times before but I had other clubs this summer who met me at the same time.

“I’ve had opportunities to go abroad but I wanted to come back to the Premier League.”

While it seems he was approached there is no indication that he was the Celtic boards first choice.

We understand the minute Brendan Rodgers displayed an interest in the post all their efforts went into concluding the deal.

For what it’s worth Moyes appointment would have been welcomed but not as much as Rodgers appointment. Davie wouldn’t have had 14k Celtic fans turning up at Parkhead to greet him.

We wish him all the best at Sunderland.
