Comeback Celtic star Leigh Griffiths will NOT be making his return to the international fold next month with the Scotland squad with Steve Clarke choosing to omit the frontman.

The squad was released today with many anticipating Leigh’s return, but it hasn’t worked out that way. There is no word yet if there’s a fitness issue Celtic or even Scotland are concerned about.

Leigh got on as a substitute on Sunday against Hearts and then played for the Celtic reserves on Monday where he got among the goals. If there’s a question surrounding his fitness then surely you’d gamble on having arguable your best striker in the squad and have him turn up for international duty to run the rule over.

Clarke has decided not to bring Leigh back into the squad, and I’m sure we’ll find out in the coming hours why this has been the case and if Leigh has an international future under Clarke.

James Forrest, Ryan Christie and Callum McGregor have been called up.

  1. GOOD WISH NONE OF OUR PLAYERS PLAYED ANY INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL CELTIC, CELTIC CELTIC! ITS ALL 99 PERCENT OF REAL TIMS CARE ABOUT

    • Scotland may not have a wealth of strikers but, after a decent return to the Celtic side, Griffiths has dropped back a level recently. Why would there be a mystery about an omission? I would have been pleasantly surprised if he had, but surprised all the same.
