LEE O’CONNOR was supposed to be part of the Tranmere squad who took on Sunderland at Wembley this afternoon. The Celtic loanee has been turning out regularly for Tranmere this season and was expected to start the final.

However, when the squad was announced earlier on Sunday, O’Connor was nowhere to be seen. The Irishman totally out of the picture and Tranmere without his services for the day.

Given his growing stature within the team, we assumed injury must have been the cause and according to reporter Richard Garnett, the player suffered an injury in training.

Speaking in the Wirral Globe the reporter claimed: “A bit more on the absence of Lee O’Connor.

“I understand that he has been ruled out of today’s match after sustaining an injury in a training ground collision late last week.”

Sunderland won 1-0 on the day thanks to a goal from Lyndon Gooch with an assist from former Celtic star Aiden McGeady.

It would have been a tough one for Lee to sit out today and he’ll be gutted along with the rest of his teammates that they couldn’t get the win on the day.

Lee is showing a lot of promise in this Tranmere side and could come back to Celtic and go straight into a new look side after this season.
