Scott Brown and Stevie Naismith were in each other’s faces all day on Sunday as both tried their best to help their respective teams win the Scottish Cup Final.

Both fiery on the pitch, it didn’t take long for them to lock horns and get going.

The little battles all over the field were adding up. However, Naismith did get away with one when he appeared to stamp on Scott Brown after a challenge in the first half.

When Celtic went 3-2 ahead, Scott Brown chased Naismith down and verbally berated him as he walked back to the centre circle, whatever had been said in the lead up to the goal obviously triggered a strong response from Brown.

After the game, when Celtic had won on penalties, Naismith was asked about the battle between the pair and he played it down.

They are very similar in temperaments on the field and are bound to clash. As far as I know both Scott and Steven are good guys off the field and show nothing as they do on a football field. Guys who turn it on to do battle and understand what’s happening.

Speaking to RecordSport, Naismith acknowledged it was left all on the pitch, as it should be.

“It was a battle and that’s it. Broony is the type of player who tries to impose himself. As a player, he is what he is.

“On top of that, he tries to enforce and intimidate players and stuff like that.

“For me, it was about giving as good as you get.

“Some of Broony’s reactions showed that in recent times things have been a bit more nervy.

“Every game you play it is a battle. It’s stuff that’s just left on the pitch.

“As players you do anything you can to win, effectively, and that’s what everyone was trying to do.”
