Former Napoli manager Gianni di Marzio who now works for the club as a transfer consultant has spoken up about Celtic target, Aaron Hickey and his potential.

The Italian believes Hickey is the sort of player Napoli should be targeting this summer but was unsure how much Bologna would want for their left-back.

As quoted by RecordSport said di Marzio said: “Napoli need to make some serious changes to their team for the new season. They have to get rid of players and recruit well.

“I’m looking at someone like Aaron Hickey of Bologna – I see him as being a perfect fit for Napoli.

“Hickey is a very good, young player. He knows how to do both the defensive side of the game and he’s very dangerous in an attacking sense.

“Of course, it would depend on how much he is available for and how much Napoli wants to invest, but he has to be someone that would interest them.”

Celtic have been credited with an interest in the left-back for a long time and the same RecordSport report claims Napoli will challenge the Hoops for the defender.

Marzo seems like he’s thinking out loud rather than making a meaningful or definitive statement on Napoli’s interest in the player

The club have had Hickey on the books TWICE, but the youngster left twice because he couldn’t see a clear path to the first team.

Heading to Hearts, the defender got vital first team football which put him back on Celtic’s radar. The Scottish born star opted to move to Italy at the beginning of last season and has done well with Bologna.

There’s likely going to be more interest and with Celtic’s left-back position still up for grabs, Hickey could finally make the Celtic first team if he was signed.

It’s all ifs and buts, Ange Postecoglou looks like he wants to build a young and exciting side. Pace and power is the name of the game.
