NEIL LENNON has been speaking about links between himself and Sunderland. The northeast club sacked Lee Johnson after his side were embarrassed by Bolton. Sky Sports have linked Neil Lennon to the job.

Speaking about the speculation, Lennon said the position was ‘appealing’ but admitted he faced tough competition. [TalkSPORT via Daily Record]

“It’s very appealing I think. It has a fantastic fanbase and in a reasonably good position in the league, that would be a job anyone would be interested in.

“But it is so competitive now, the manager’s race to get back in or keep your job.

“There are so many good coaches around. England is the place everyone wants to be. The Premier League is the marquee league.

“It is a tremendous product now, so great to watch. But the pandemic affected a lot of clubs and a bit of normality has come back into it.”

It has been well noted that Lennon is hunting for a job after he left Celtic just under twelve months ago. He has been open to moves abroad, but nothing’s materialised.

The Northern Irishman’s time at Celtic was disastrous. In one of Celtic’s biggest seasons, it all went horribly wrong.

When it was clear a change of manager was needed, the club failed to act and Lennon refused to accept he was part responsible for the club’s downfall. It’s no wonder he is still hunting for a job.

Roy Keane, who was linked with a return to Celtic during the summer, is set to hold talks with Sunderland, who he has managed in the past.
