NEIL LENNON has revealed Leigh Griffiths wanted to play for the Celtic developmental side on Monday – less than 24 hours after he came on as a sub during the Hearts game at Celtic Park.
The striker has still been working on his fitness with the Celtic manager admitting the player needs to continue to put the work in to get up to speed. Leigh has already been back in the team and scored goals since returning to the game.
Many were puzzled to see the player in the starting line-up with the young lads. When asked the thinking behind Leigh playing in the game against Dundee, the Celtic gaffer made it clear it was Leigh’s choice and the player is desperate to do everything he can to make sure he is back playing regularly for Celtic.
“He wanted to play, which is great. He played 60 minutes and has the bit between his teeth.” Lennon told CelticTV.
“His time has been a bit limited due to his match fitness more than anything else.
“I’m pleased with that attitude. It shows the desire is there. It’s been there over the piece.
“His fitness levels are improving.”
Leigh has come back with the right attitude and knows with hard work he can get back to where he wants to be. The player has flown out with the rest of the squad to Sweden where Celtic look to drive home their 2-0 advantage against AIK on early Thursday evening.
