Speaking on BBC Scotland’s EURO Breakfast Show this morning, Neil Lennon voiced his ‘disappointment’ with striker Leigh Griffiths. The former hoops manager opened up on the fallout between himself and the Scottish International in pre-season. Neil, when asked if he was disappointed by Griffiths actions had this to say:

“The disappointing thing for me was after the lockdown he came back really out of condition. Having got back into the team having being out for so long with his own issues we got him fit, he formed a really good partnership with Edouard.”

He then talked up Griffiths, calling him a ‘goal scorer’

“He has to look at himself and get himself in the best condition. He’s only 30 and he must have been sitting there yesterday going I should be out there” [talking about Scotlands defeat to the Czech Republic]

The Northern Irishman then gave his thoughts on the 30-year-old’s future where he didn’t seem too optimistic. Despite being full of praise for who he described as a ‘rascal’.

When asked what it would take for Griffiths to be part of the Scotland Squad, this was Lennon’s reply

“I don’t know if that ship has sailed now, I really don’t know”

The only way Griff can take part in these squads is by returning to peak fitness, and to his credit he is working hard on his fitness before the beginning of pre-season. Over the past couple of days, Leigh has been working with a personal trainer. Posting on his Instagram story today, Griff appeared to be working on his running, with the caption ‘speed power’.

Griffiths, when fit, is undeniably one of the best strikers in Scotland who just wants to score goals. He demonstrated this in the 2015/16 season where he netted the ball 40 times.

Watching Scotland play, they show they are missing out on a goal scorer, with 19 shots in their opening goal, the Scots didnt manage to net the ball once.

There is already uncertainty regarding the forwards future at celtic, with rumours he his a Free Agent and being linked with a return to Hibs.
