NEIL LENNON has told the official Celtic website there will be no quick return for Celtic midfielder Ryan Christie after suffering a horror injury in the semi-final against Aberdeen.
“Ryan has multiple fractures of the eye socket, jaw and cheekbone,” Neil Lennon told Celtic TV, “so the prognosis isn’t good for the rest of the season really. He’s had a great season, he’s a huge player for us and it was a really horrendous collision.”
“With it being multiple fractures, it’s going to take a bit more time,” he said. “We just have to look after him as best as we can and get him back for the start of next season, and we wish him a speedy recovery.
Christie looked to have won the ball in the air for Dominic Ball to come in very late and smash into the midfielders face. The noise of the clash was sickening and could be heard all around Hampden. Ball was given his second yellow for the late challenge and went up the tunnel for an early bath.
Celtic will now be without Ryan for the rest of the season which is a blow for the squad. Ryan was the spark in our season when things weren’t going too well early on. His surprise inclusion in the second half of the semi-final brought him into the fold, and he took his opportunity well. It was Ryan who changed the Hearts game at Murrayfield and helped us to a League Cup final where he’d go onto score the winner against Aberdeen and lift the trophy.
