Celtic boss Neil Lennon has said a defensive shake-up will be considered after some poor performances at the back this season.

As reported by the Glasgow Times, the Northern Irishman, who watched his side concede four goals for the second time against Sparta Prague on Thursday night, within a matter of weeks, confirmed that changes may need to be made in defence after what was a shambolic performance in the Czech Republic.

“These are the dirty bits of the game that we should do better,” Lennon said.

“The first goal [against Sparta], Chris (Jullien) gets first contact on it and we don’t deal with the second phase which is down to us. That’s something we should have dealt with no problem.

“The third goal on the counter-attack, we’ve got enough bodies there to deal with it but we don’t track the run. That’s individual errors – switching off.

“It all comes from us being in a very good position at a set play. Even the last goal we’ve got enough numbers back and maybe at that stage they have the feeling that the game’s got away from them.”

In the last four games, we have conceded 11 goals. In the league we have conceded 13 goals already, we only conceded 19 the whole of last season. These are just a few of the stats that put our performances this season into perspective.

Going into this campaign, it did look as though we had improved in the centre back area, bringing in Brighton defender Shane Duffy to replace Jozo Simunovic but in hindsight has that really been a good replacement?

I still think it is, but there are a lot of problems with the side at the moment. Of course, players need to take the blame but for me, this also falls on the management. Our system this season has been non-existent and the majority of defences would struggle with that. It really does need to improve and fast.
