Neil Lennon Drops Celtic Cuts Bombshell Live on Air

NEIL LENNON has admitted there will need to be tough decisions around cuts at the club if the current shutdown continues for up to three months.

The Celtic manager spoke to Chris Sutton at BBC Five Live and hasn’t ruled out the possibility of the club looking to take financial measures in order to stay healthy.

This would likely be across the board and if any staff were asked to take wage cuts you would hope the first person to do so would be Peter Lawwell himself.

Celtic have money in the bank but with no revenue coming in and a stall on this years season ticket campaign, Celtic aren’t immune to what’s going on.

The Celtic manager is well aware the club may have to cut its cloth in the short term. This was counter to what has been said previously where staff were assured of their positions.

When asked on BBC Five Live if cuts were a possibility, he said: “Yes.” As cited by Record Sport.

“We’ll probably have a look at things at the end of April in terms of the club as a whole.

“Peter [Lawwell] and the board will review it then. At the minute, we are okay.

“For Scottish clubs, this is the time of the year when they are putting out season tickets, but, obviously, the general public are very wary and reluctant to part with their money as they don’t know what they are paying for yet and we still haven’t finished this season yet.

‘We don’t know whether that’s going to happen or not. We need to get a decision sooner rather than later on that.

“There has to be a backstop date at some stage so we can start to plan ahead.

“We’re financially robust, but are still feeling the hit. We’ve been told by the chief medical officer here it’s going to be 12 to 13 weeks in this situation, so it’s really difficult to plan for the future and you have to prepare yourself as best you can for whatever the outcome is going to be.”

Celtic were on course to be crowned champions for the ninth season running when the shutdown came into play and were also on the cusp of another domestic cup final.
