Neil Lennon has told the media he feel let down by Jeremie Frimpong after the player told him and the club in no uncertain terms he wanted to go.

The right-back has only been with us for 18 months but he preferred to leave ASAP when he heard Bayer Leverkusen were interested

There’s clear disharmony among some of the want-away players in our squad and when Neil called them out after the Champions League exit, it only further worsened the situation.

Publicly calling out your players who were agitating for a move then not moving them on is criminal.

Speaking about the Frimpong deal, Neil Lennon thought he could’ve helped the player develop more.

For many Celtic fans, they’re wondering how Neil Lennon still sits in the hot seat after his horror season and then media outburst just last week.

“So we’re hoping that the deal goes through in the next 24 hours or so. We expect it to happen.” Lennon told CelticTV.

“It didn’t come as a surprise at all – this has been in the offing for the past couple of months.

“We offered the player talks for a new deal a few months back but he declined and made it clear that he wanted to leave, despite our best efforts to keep him.

“We’ve received a very robust offer for him and, after talking about it at length, we think it’s the best thing for the club going forward.

“Obviously, we’re now looking to bring in a right-back to play in that position.

“The size of the offer was good business for the club and the fact is that he’d also come off it a little bit in his last few games.

“It was as though he’d been distracted by all the speculation surrounding the move.

“It’s difficult when it’s a player you’ve helped to develop.

“You’re sorry to see him go but, eventually, he didn’t want to stay and progress here.

“There was a determination about him to go so we took our decision.

“I feel a bit let down because we felt we could progress him further and we offered him a new deal which would have kept him here for another two or three years.

“But it was down to the player’s personal ambition. Whether that’s the right way for him remains to be seen.

“For us, though, from a business point of view and maybe from a footballing point of view as well… when a player’s mind is set like that it’s very difficult to bring him back round.”

Jeremie has been off the boil like many of his Celtic teammates. It’s a shame he won’t be sticking around to develop. Perhaps he’ll let us know in the future why he went from enthusiastic new bhoy to heading for the exit.

  1. The manager feels let down so do all the fans the time is here. Now let us bank that money and any more that we get if we can sell a few more players those that want a move out and we must get all dead wood out..
Yes a new manager would be great · Steve Clarke is the manager i want he can set up a team with players that most would think would be easy to turn over we know what Steve Clarke can do so with money for him to buy some of his own playing staff that he wants then we must be talking to him right now with a view to him signing a pre contract with Celtic now, keep it a secret for now but get deal done Celtic.
