NEIL LENNON has perhaps given Celtic fans false hope ahead of the expected Parkhead exit of current Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata.

Celtic fans have been resigned to losing the Belgium star for most of the season since the whole incident with Boyata, his agent and Brendan Rodgers.

The Irishman confirmed back in August last year that Celtic had knocked back a considerable amount of cash from a Premier League club at the time which didn’t go down well with the former Man City trainee.

However, he and the club have got on with it under the premise he will likely leave at the end of his current deal. The defender has been professional since his move was turned down last summer and he’s now looking at the offers he has.

Neil Lennon weighed into the speculation at the weekend by confirming he knew nothing about any interest and went one further and told Celtic fans he’s still hopeful over signing the player to a new deal.

Is this pie in the sky from Neil Lennon?

“I’m not aware of that.” Lennon told CelticTV

“Dedryck was at the game today. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is interest in him.

“But we are still hopeful that we can persuade him to stay, which would be great for everyone.”

Would you welcome a new Boyata deal?
