Neil Lennon has had a change of heart over the Sam Cosgrove incident at Celtic Park on Saturday after initially having sympathy for the Aberdeen striker.

Cosgrove flew in on Kristoffer Ajer during Celtic’s 2-1 win over the Dons and was red carded for his troubles.

Neil Lennon said after the match he thought Sam was unlucky to be sent off but after seeing the incident again the Celtic manager is now insisting it was a red.

“There’s intent there. I don’t think he needed to make the challenge.” Lennon told CelticTV.

“Kristoffer’s maybe lucky he didn’t come off with a bad injury”.

“In hindsight – the way the game is now – it probably was the correct decision”.

Derek McInnes will probably choke on his coffee today reading Lennon’s comments after backing his player and forcing a fast track appeal which will be held today.

The intent is there and he’s come off his feet at pace. Had it been a Celtic player doing it to one of his players it would be a different story.

Celtic move on from Aberdeen and have their sights firmly set on St Mirren for their Boxing Day fixture.

The bhoys could finish the year top of the shop with two wins from their last two games.
