NEIL LENNON has hit back at Tam McManus who claimed Celtic striker Patryk Klimala would not have been happy with being on the bench during Celtic’s champions league exit to the point he might think his days are already numbered.

The Celtic manager responded to the pundit when he was asked about Patryk and his current situation at Celtic.

“McManus is a pundit and he has his opinion.” Neil Lennon told RecordSport.

“I don’t think Patryk will be asking for a transfer any time soon. He is young and hasn’t done a full 90 minutes yet.

“We see him as a squad player to develop and we felt Wednesday night was not the right time to throw him in the deep end with a start.”

Klimala did get on against Motherwell on Sunday and was a big part of the reason why we played so well. On another day the striker should have got a goal but his performance helped up Celtic’s tempo and gave them a better shape.

The Polish frontman signed for the club in January and as a squad player, he’ll need to hide his time BUT if Edouard is out injured again, and Ajeti isn’t fit, the player should be starting.

  1. Reckon Tam is spot on-Klimala was bought in Jan transfer window-with Soro, presumably as part of tooling up in what, at the time, was a close title race with Sevco.
Instead of that, neither player is anywhere near starting line-up and even though we had no fit strikers, Klimala wasnt trusted. Lennon has just admitted he’s a “squad player”.
So we were happy to spend £5m in Jan on yet another 2 “projects” at a time when we were screaming out for quality recruits or these 2 players were identified as quality signings but Lennon does not rate them. Id say already it doesnt look promising
