NEIL LENNON confirmed on Wednesday evening Celtic were closing in on defender Christopher Jullien from Toulouse.

The Irishman spoke about the deal almost being done which would see the towering centre back make the move from France to Scotland and give Celtic some well needed reinforcements at the back.

One big take away from Neil Lennon’s comments on the Frenchman has to be the fact Celtic have been tracking Jullien for some time – even before Neil Lennon got there.

“It’s close, yes. It’s a player that we’ve identified for a long time, even before my time here. Hopefully we can get that one over the line soon.” Neil told Sky Sports.

The manager made it clear this was a long term target of the club meaning Lee Congerton and Brendan Rodgers had identified him before moving on to Leicester last season.

Was Jullien one of the players Brendan wanted in last summer in order to let Boyata leave to go to Fulham?

It appears the club have been so impressed with the defender that their interest has outlasted Brendan Rodgers stay at the club.

If Christopher does make the move in the next few days he could be Celtic’s official first summer signing.
