Celtic boss Neil Lennon has come in for a lot of criticism for fans in the last few weeks after a run of poor results but he is certain he can turn things around and win back the ‘tough audience’ that is the Hoops faithful.

As reported by the Daily Record, Lennon has asked the fans to take a step back and have a bit of perspective when it comes to our league position and has asked fans to have some patience as he and his squad of players look to turn things around.

“Do I hope things calm down? I can’t control that. It’s a tough audience in Glasgow. It has to ease some of it off. I hope there is a bit of a step back.

“We’ve lost one game in the league this season. I know there’s a bit of work to be done to catch up but there are 24 games left. That’s two-thirds of the campaign, so there’s so much football left.

“All this stuff doesn’t help the players. It doesn’t help me or my backroom staff. We’re all working very hard to get back a level of performance and consistency. It’s difficult with everything that is going on.

“It’s just a little bit of patience that’s required. I’m all right. Sometimes things can get a bit overdramatic. People tend to blow things out of proportion.

“It’s not been an ideal situation, but I believe in what we are doing here. I believe in the players as well. There’s a long way to go. I’ve been in this position before as a manager and prevailed, so I have evidence to back it up.

“It’s about passing that experience on to the players.”

The Northern Irishman is hoping that Thursday nights 3-2 victory against Ligue 1 side Lille will be the catalyst that can turn the sides season around.

It was a much-improved performance which saw several players come in from the fringes and put in an impressive display such as Ismaila Soro and David Turnbull.

These sort of players have been at our disposal all season, so this is what makes it even more frustrating.

Having won just two games in 12 games before Thursday’s game Celtic fans were right to be annoyed at what was going on and we have a mountain to climb at this stage to win the league.

Fingers crossed though, the win the other night can be the one that pushes us on to build some momentum and get back on track again.

  1. Another stunning statement from lennon, people blowing things out of proportion, out of Europe. 13 points behind. Out of league Cup. Abysmal performances. He’s living in some sort of fantasy land if he thinks this is OK.
