The league may be wrapped up but Neil Lennon will still believe he has a point to prove on Sunday at Ibrox as his long audition for the Celtic job runs through Govan.
Having already won the first Glasgow Derby game 2-1 at Celtic Park back in March it’s now time for the interim boss to take his side on the road.
Celtic have been pretty lethargic with their two best performances under Neil Lennon both coming against Aberdeen. The win against The Rangers was tough but the bhoys got there in the end.
With Celtic needing a bit of a spark to get games going, there’s one player Neil Lennon has underutilised to this point and if given the chance could be the Irishman’s wild card pick at Ibrox.
I’m talking about Oli Burke. The Scottish attacker burst onto the scene after the winter break under Brendan Rodgers with his tremendous pace causing all sorts of problems for teams. He got on the scoresheet and he was looking menacing – the game against Valencia was hard on Oli with his obvious pace hampered by his inability to control the ball at all times.
Between that game and Brendan Rodgers leaving, the West Brom player has found game shard to come by and that sitter he missed against Livingston still has us putting our hands on our heads. However, he is far from a bad player and given the right circumstances and the right game he really could fly at Ibrox.
The £30kpw attacker’s pace could lend itself to the likes of Callum McGregor and Tom Rogic on the day who could put the player in behind the Ibrox defence. Burke has the ability to latch onto some great through balls and it would then be up to the player to keep his cool.
There’s no way we keep Oli after this season BUT we have the freedom to give games to players who might not be here next season. Sunday is not about building for the future, it’s about winning the game.
