Neil Lennon spoke about James Forrest at today’s press conference after the player was linked with a move away from Celtic this summer.

The Celtic manager denied that there was any formal interest in the player but did admit if Zenit St Petersburg were after James, he wouldn’t surprised.

Celtic are set to take on Cluj in the Champions League qualifiers and James will be a certain starter at Parkhead on Tuesday night when the Romanian’s come to town.

“A big player, a big goalscorer. He has been here a long, long time. He is under contract.” Lennon told CelticTV.

“There is no confirmation of that (Zenit interest), it is just speculation, but it doesn’t surprise me. However, from my point of view we want James here and he is happy here as well.

“It’s important to hold on to your better players, we have already sold one so we don’t want to sell any more.

“We are looking to add to the squad rather than selling any more of our important players and James certainly falls into that category.”

James has been a terrific player for Celtic the past three seasons especially. He has scored in 11 consecutive league campaigns for Celtic matching Paul McStay’s record.

Nobody at the club would like to see James Forrest leave this summer for any amount of money – especially after losing Kieran Tierney to Arsenal.

The transfer window shuts at the start of Septemeber and fans will be hoping there are more players coming in rather than leaving.
