NEIL LENNON has given some insight into Leigh Griffiths as the striker tries to prepare himself for life back in the Celtic first team.

The frontman has been missing since November – taking time away from the game to deal with things in his personal life.

Celtic fans have been fully supportive of Leigh as he took the time off with the Green Brigade revealing a banner just days after it was announced which read: “It’s okay not to be okay”.

Leigh has been desperate to get back playing football and it looks like he has been keeping up some level of fitness for when the time was right to make his return. Yesterday, on Celtic TV, Neil Lennon confirmed the player was going through a fitness test and they would assess the player from there.

Neil didn’t rule out a return for Leigh before the end of the season but admits the striker has a lot of work to do if he is to get there.

“He’s having some fitness tests today so we’ll have a fair idea how far away he is when we get the results,” the interim boss revealed. “He has a bit of work to do still.

“We’ve had a lot of conversations with him, the club has done all it can to help him but obviously with off the field difficulties he needs to get some calmness in his life, stability and then the football can take care of its self.

“You know if you have carnage going on off the field it’s going to get you eventually and catch up with you on the field. He knows that, there’s a realisation there and he’s working very hard behind the scenes which is great.”

  1. Oko-Flex Needs to up his own abilities seems to me that he thinks that he is better than he really is or better than some of his team mates around him, He needs to be more quick thinking when he is on the ball keep his head up look around him more and if and when he is in the box taking defenders on he has to do one of the other go for goal make the goal keeper work or if a team mate is in a more clear cut position pass the ball to him, I just think that he looked a bit jaded at times could have made better runs, But the impression that I got was as if he thought that he was or seemed to be a step up further than the rest of his team mates, Young Dembele is good but again not as good as he should and could have been, Yes some of the treatment he received shall be no different as and when he steps up further in his career, He has skill in abundance, But he seems to get knocked off the ball too easily, Again could up his passing and control the ball with his feet at close range, He can take players on but he runs with his head down needs to look around him and see what or who is available to receive the ball, Sorry again another player who seems to think hold on a moment I am better than most or all of my team mates around me, [Prima-Donas] We do not need, Both Young Oko-Flex & Young Dembele, Should And Could have done so much more for the young Bhoys at Hampden, I Expected so much more from these two players and was disappointed at times with both, [IF] Both think that they are so much better and can show their footballing skills at another club, I Have got news for them just sit back for a moment and just look at what another young Ex-Hoops Player happened to him, I am not even going to say his name for the simple reason that our great club and one of our great managers had done for not only him but for what they had done for his family, “BUT” Where is he now, Look yes football can be a very rewarding career, Yes Young players of today have to realise that it can also make you or break you, [IF] You want it so much keep the head down and go for it, As I say football is a team game, You have to learn and learn quick or your footballing career can pass you by before you realise it [Then It Is Too Late] Can Young Oko-Flex & Young Dembele make it in the game as it is today, Yes Definitely, But with a lot of coaching and training they can get that chip off their shoulders and the sooner the better, Both can be at Celtic for a very long time with a glittering career ahead of them, Some might not agree with my comment and some may agree with my comment, But all I want to see is these young players in the game make today and when they get more experience then when they are in that dressing room and before they eventually pull those Green & White Hoops Over Their Heads, Just think about those great players before them had done the same and when they run out the tunnel in front of the best supporters in the world and when they enter onto the hallowed turf at Paradise, Then and only then they shall realise what it is really like to be not only a footballer but playing for the mighty hoops !!!
