NEIL LENNON has paid tribute to Fernando Ricksen after the former Rangers player lost his battle with Motor Neurone Disease.

The players had many onfield battles back in their playing days and were two fiery characters on the field during a derby.

Neil Lennon branded Fernando’s passing as a ‘huge loss’ and credited the Gers man for getting better and better during his Ibrox days.

“I’m very very upset, for someone I played against in many battles, as a player he got better and better in his time at Rangers. He matured into a very fine player. It’s a huge loss” Neil Lennon told Alison Conroy.

Celtic and Rangers fans have united to pay tribute to the player on social media today. Condolences also officially coming from the club.

Jimmy Johnstone was lost to the disease in 2006 and seeing Fernando deteriorate over the past few years has been heartbreaking.

Respect to Fernando for fighting as long as he did.
