NEIL LENNON has confirmed he spoke to the former Parkhead boss and Celtic legend Martin O’Neill after he returned to the club for a second spell last week.

Neil answered Celtic’s SOS when Brendan Rodgers jumped shipped very swiftly at the start of last week and came back into a role he is very familiar with.

The Irishman has captained and managed the club before and is a recognised, fully fledged member of the Celtic family whose passion for the club is up there with some of the top figures in our history.

Martin O’Neill was the man to bring Neil to the club during his tenure at the start of the Millenium and since then Neil has never been too far away from the club.

If you have read about O’Neill, been in his company or listened to ex-players talking about the former boss, you will know he has a sharp tongue and his reputation proceeds him here when Neil Lennon reveals the first thing Martin did when they got on the phone to each other last week.

“I spoke to Martin after I was appointed, he gave me pelters. But he did give me good advice too.” he told SunSport.

“We had a good chat and he had a great win on Monday night so he was in good form.

“It was just the usual nuggets, ‘be yourself, don’t change too much but obviously rein it in a little bit’.”

Since leaving the Ireland job, O’Neill has returned to a club where he won the European Cup back in his playing days. The former treble winning manager has his own project going on at Nottingham Forest.
