Neil Lennon Ruined Celtic Star During Time at the Club

Ange Postecoglou gave some insight into Tom Rogic’s Celtic resurgence after the midfielder scored what’s likely to be goal of the season.

The Celtic star opened the scoring for the Hoops on Sunday with an outstanding solo effort – something we’ve not seen from the player in quite some time.

It could have been different 18 months ago, had Tom taken up the offer to move into the football wilderness in Qatar – a move Celtic and Neil Lennon were happy to allow.

It’s blatantly obvious that Neil Lennon never believed in Tom Rogic. When he was brought to the club, Neil didn’t know what to do with Tom. The second time around, the midfielder was an established first team star who had been pivotal in so much success for the club, yet Neil again proved he didn’t quite fancy him.

The better managers who have managed the Australian at Celtic have always seen his worth.

Ange is spot on when he says you’ll get the best out of Rogic if he’s happy and appreciated in the team. That didn’t happen under the Irishman.

He has a manager now who knows what he’s all about and is once again, getting the best out of him.

Asked by BBC Sportsound if he had to have a conversation with Tom when he first came to the club, this was the Hoops gaffer’s response:

“I don’t know about that.

“I think he was disillusioned with life itself. I think it’s just players getting to certain parts of a their career where they obviously are questioning a lot of things.

“He’s the last person I needed to have a conversation with because he knows me. He’s probably the one most comfortable.

“So, you know, for me, I, as I’ve said before, that when Tommy’s really happy with his football and enjoying himself, he’s at his best and that’s what we’re trying to get him to do.”

The player is just back from injury but has already shown why he was missed.

Hopefully Tom’s form continues and he has a big say on the outcome of the season.
