The Celtic manager has confirmed tonight that his goalkeeper Scott Bain has done his chances no harm at all in France by putting on a great performance on the night.

Bain saved a first half penalty which had a big influence on the game. Had that goal went in, Celtic could have easily crumbled to a defeat.

The second half was obviously Lille’s with their constant attacking leading to them getting back into the game. On the night, Bain made some very positive saves to make sure we got at least a point in the end.

Vasilis Barkas had a slight shoulder injury tonight but was available for selection, Lenny opted for Bain and it has paid off.

Asked if Scott Bain is in the running for the number one spot, Lennon replied:

“Absolutely, yeah.” Lennon told SunSport.

“Scott was always in and around it anyway. He’s trained well and the time between coming back in June. I think there has been a real change in his attitude to his work.

“He’s in the gym very early in the morning and he’s reaping the benefits of that.

“We put a lot of trust in him and faith as we do in Barkas as well, but Scott has done his chances no harm with another big performance.

“When you go away in Europe, you need your goalkeeper to play well and he stood up. He can be pleased with himself as we are.”

Barkas has had an average start to his Celtic career since coming in for £4.5m [TransferMarkt], not doing much wrong but not instilling confidence in the support. That could still come, but will Bain get his run at the minute?

We will find out against Aberdeen on Sunday what Neil’s thinking is.
