Neil Lennon summed up Celtic’s 3-0 defeat at Ibrox this afternoon with on-the-money analysis after the game.
Lennon, who was at the game on punditry duties, witnessed a disastrous afternoon for the Hoops, who were simply second best for 90 minutes from start to finish.
It will certainly be a learning curve for Brendan Rodgers and the players, with this being the Bhoys’ first league defeat of the season in January.
Lennon criticised the lacklustre performance from Celtic, with Rangers registering a staggering number of shots during the game.
He said: (Sky Sports), “There was nothing about Celtic today. It was flat.
“Second best to everything. Conceded so much ground and 24 shots [against] in the game.
“It is hard to be critical of this team but today they were awful. They offered up nothing.”
The Irishman is right to call the Hoops flat; they did not have any sort of consistent threat in the game, with Rangers winning the ball in the midfield area far too often.
Players like Reo Hatate and Paulo Bernardo failed to control the game for Celtic as they have so often done this season.
With Rangers having 24 shots in the game, including 9 on target, the Ibrox side controlled the game despite Celtic having 61% of possession.
The Hoops were often happy to keep the ball in their own half rather than playing faster and looking to test Rangers’ midfield and makeshift defence.
With Celtic just two days into the January transfer window, it gives Brendan Rodgers the perfect opportunity to improve the team ahead of the next Glasgow derby on March 15th at Celtic Park.
Left-back and a winger have already been identified as areas for improvement, and such a disappointing performance this afternoon may mean that Celtic look to add even more players this month.
