NEIL LENNON has appeared to take a veiled swipe at some of his friends in the press who have called for him to step down as the Celtic manager during the disastrous season.

So many pundits who would came out in protest of Ronny Deila during his time at the club actually stuck by Neil Lennon fort a lot of this season before finally coming to the realisation defending the Celtic manager’s calamitous season crossed the threshold between punditry and cheerleading.

However, that didn’t stop Neil Lennon from saying he couldn’t care less about his friend, John Hartson’s opinion when the Welshman finally admitted enough was enough.

Chris Sutton openly admits he finds it hard to criticise or call for the Irishman’s job because of their friendship and what they’ve been through but he has called for Lennon to step down.

Speaking before the Motherwell game, the Hoops Boss made was asked what he’s discovered through this season of turmoil.

“You know who your friends are” Lennon told CelticTV

“It’s a test of your character and you learn more about putting things into perspective, not getting too high or too low.

“I’ve learned a little bit more about my players as well, about their characters and personalities.

“It’s not been a lot of fun for them at times, it’s been very difficult for them but we’re not the only ones affected by this.

“This is my first time managing during a pandemic so we’ve learned a lot from that, although I hope it won’t last for too much longer.”

Neil appears to be adopting a siege mentality. I guarantee when all this is said and done, the treble winning manager will understand more and perhaps even agree he stayed too long.

Right now, in the eye of the storm, his hard outer shell and his stubbornness is driving a lot of the comments he makes.

  1. Neil has been a bully-magnet most of his career. If people think it’s time for a change, that’s fine. Joining the bully boys however is totally unacceptable. He has won so much with the club. He wouldn’t deserve to be bullied even if he had won nothing.
