Former Celtic academy player and current host of Open Goal, Simon Ferry, has urged Neil Lennon to do everything he can to go with two upfront.

As reported by the Daily Record, speaking on Go Radio, Ferry believes the Northern Irishman should use the words and actions if Gordon Strachan as inspiration, and do all be can to rekindle the partnership between Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths.

Celtic’s best football in the last three years was in the last six months of last season and that was all down to Leigh Griffiths and Odsonne Edouard upfront.

“Gordon Strachan used to say you are only as good as your front two and those two are top class.

“Celtic must do everything they can to get those two on the pitch together at the same time because they are a different team when they do.”

Ferry has a point, in terms of when Celtic played some of their best football last season. Both Griffiths and Edouard played a key role in firing the hoops to a ninth league title in a row.

This season, we have seen Lennon try and deploy a system with two up top but it hasn’t worked, with the squad also being unfortunate in terms of personnel in defence and attack.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we did see a similar formation played at some point this season because we have so many good and influential attacking players in the squad.
