NEIL LENNON has read the room wrong when he talks about Celtic’s player prospects next season.

Everyone is delighted to see Leigh Griffiths hitting the comeback trail and on his back to the first team squad. The striker has been out since November and is in a position to get back into the game.

However, Neil Lennon deciding to describe the strikers comeback in the most clichéd and cringey way possible has gone down like a lead balloon

The new Celtic boss has hailed the frontman as a ‘new signing’ and told the Celtic Support he’ll be like a new £6m signing.

It will be like a new signing,” Lennon told the Evening Times. “He’ll need to get up to speed with his conditioning. He’s working hard and we’ll see where he is football wise.

“We could have a £6 million striker on our hands for nothing. He’s missed the last 18 months and he’ll need to knuckle down, but he’ll have our full support.”

Having Leigh back is a boost, there’s no doubt about it! However, in a period where Celtic fans have a microscope under Peter Lawwell and Neil Lennon’s transfer plans, it’s not what many want to hear.

The fans want to see progress and reinforcements coming in. Mixing current players like Leigh with fresh stars. The worry is this spin gives the club an easy out if they don’t sign their targets.

  1. Mark, yes it will be one of many weird statements we will be hearing from Lennon. Remember if you will when Lennon in his first spell as manager he never gave Griffiths much playing time and now he is telling us he’s a six million pound man. It was Ronny Deila who brought out the best in Griff and Forrest He was also reluctant to bring on our young guys like Teirney, McGregor etc and again it was R.D who introduced them. There are rumours he would might be considering bringing back Efe Ambrose. Enough said about that. Unfortunately Griff fell out with Brendan and although Rogers said it wasn’t a big deal he never really figured after that and now I believe will be past his sell by date.
