NEIL LENNON has given his seal of approval to Lee Congerton’s replacement Nicky Hammond after the window came to a close for the club on Monday night.

Hammond was brought in on a temporary basis this summer to take over from Lee Congerton who thankfully went out to join Brendan Rodgers at Leicester.

Instead of announcing the new chief scout on a permanent basis both parties opened into a summer type gig to see how they both got on.

Speaking to CelticTV, Neil Lennon has confirmed Hammond has been instrumental in Celtic’s window and he had been working tirelessly behind the scenes to identify players.

Responding to a question about Hammond’s influence – Neil Lennon was clear:

“Huge. Huge. He’s worked tirelessly.

“He’s been here, there and everywhere around Europe, looking at players, meeting agents and club representatives, talking to people on the phone constantly.

“You talk about work ethic, Nick is so diligent in a lot of areas when it comes to the recruitment side of things.

“I’ve enjoyed working with him in the last few weeks and we’ve had a good week.

“Everything starts to look even more promising and with the players we’ve brought in now, a lot of it is down to his hard work as well.”

Celtic haven’t commented on the scouts future yet but it’s clear Neil Lennon would like Hammond to stay on at the club now the summer window has closed.

If Hammond does take the role on a permanent basis, we should expect an announcement sooner rather than later.
