It seems the hyperbole of the Glasgow Derby has everyone knickers in a twist already but before we get to that, there’s a small matter of a League Cup tie against Dundee.

Some are intentionally looking past this to get to Saturday but for me, Dundee is the bigger tie – and I say that with the utmost sincerity.

Last season, the League Cup helped propel Celtic to a famous treble, the early November cup win the catalyst for a season that will go down in the history books.

When Celtic head to Dundee on Wednesday, it’s not a routine cup game, it’s another step to defending our crown and shouldn’t be taken lightly.

Give the added spice that Neil McCann is now the permanent Dundee boss after some humming and hawing in the summer then it’s shaping up to be an eventful Wednesday night. McCann would love nothing better than to knock Celtic out the competition.

Dundee were lucky to escape with all three points at the weekend after 15 minutes of madness during their game against St Johnstone. They now have the task of taking on the Champions on their home turf and reach the semi-final.

If anything, Rodgers squad for the game will be very telling with the weekend in mind for those who are determined to look beyond the midweek game.
