Neil Warnock believes Celtic and Rangers would both finish within the top six places of the premier league if they were allowed to join.

The veteran boss is sure that they would both finish within the top six if somehow they could find a path to one of the richest leagues in the world.

In 2009 the English teams voted against Celtic and Rangers joining their league. As it stands, it would not benefit Premier League clubs to share their TV money with the Glasgow pair. If someday they both ended up down south, Celtic and Rangers would be much better off financially, not to mention the stature of player they would be able to attract.

The former Cardiff boss told BBCScottishFootballPodcast:

“If you put Celtic and Rangers down in England, you’re talking about the top six.

“Those two clubs, if they got the money that the English clubs have coming in, they would spend it.

“They’d spend it on good players and they would then compete.”

Warnock appears to strongly agree with the premise the Glasgow duo would thrive in the Premier League environment.

Our View

It’s an argument that gets brought up every so often on a slow news day. We can’t foresee a time when any club in England would give up a piece of the pie to let Celtic join the league.

There have been talks of a European league for years also but nothing substantial has happened. There’s no doubt Celtic have outgrown the Scottish game, but until there’s a viable option, the club will continue to operate as a big fish in a small pond.
