Celtic will take on the Bundesliga side back-to-back in October in the Champions League and will be hoping to pick up points against the German side.

The Hoops last played Leipzig in the Europa League group stages in 2018 having won the home tie 2-1 with goals coming from Kieran Tierney and Odsonne Edouard.

While Celtic went up against the current European champions on Tuesday evening, the side who reached the semi-final of the Europa League last season were thrashed 4-1 at home to Shakhtar Donetsk with former Celt Marian Shved scoring two of the goals.

This heavy defeat saw Italian coach Domenico Tedesco be sacked from his position having only taken over at the Bundesliga club last December.

Celtic have previously came up against Marco Rose when they faced his RB Salzburg side in the same group Europa League group as Leipzig in 2018. He has also previously been shortlisted for the post at Celtic Park in the past.

Since then, the 45-year old has managed Borussia Monchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund but was sacked from the latter back May after a second place finish with the black and yellows.

It is hoped from a Celtic perspective that he won’t be able to turn things round at the club too quickly before the Hoops take on his new side.
