Celtic’s attacking midfielder, Elyounoussi revealed that Neil Lennon was pivotal in convincing the young player to join Celtic on loan.

The Norwegian has played 5 games and has 1 goal and 2 assists so far.

The player could have stayed at Southampton this season and tried to make the breakthrough but after listening to the Celtic manager the midfielder had no doubt Celtic was the right place to go.

“I had a chat with the coach and I was going to ask him about what he expected and tactical things.” He told Daily Echo

“However, the only thing he said to me was that: ‘You’re a good football player, we know what you can do. You do not lose skills during one season. You lose self-confidence, you start to think a little too much and such things, but skills do not lose you. I’ll help you get back there where you were’.

“That was enough to persuade me.”

So far, the player has had a free run at attacking midfield with Mikey Johnston being out injured. He must now play at his very best to make sure he stays in the team on a regular basis.

After scoring against Cluj his confidence will be high but it’s up to himself to show Neil Lennon was right to bring him to the club.

With Mikey Johnston being fit again it will be interesting to see who Neil Lennon thinks is right for the position with Saturday’s game against Ross County looming.
