NEW St Mirren boss Oran Kearney can’t wait to be in the opposite dugout to Brendan Rodgers in a weeks times and revealed it was conversations with the Celtic manager this summer which made the young manager want to try his hand in Scotland.

Oran said he spoke to Brendan in the summer when St Mirren first showed an interest in signing the gaffer from Coleraine, however, the Saints board ultimately decided to go with Alan Stubbs but after just four games in sacked the former Celtic defender due to behind the scenes differences.

This put Oran on a high alert for a move and when the Paisley club came calling the second time – there was no doubt he was going to say yes.

Oran said “I hope to have plenty of run ins with Brendan, who I have a lot of respect for.

“I have had great chats with Brendan already and before the first interview he was brilliant.

“I’d a great conversation with him on the phone and he was ultra supportive and I’d hope that continues.”

Brendan Rodgers makes a point of being there for all the young managers in the league and beyond when they call him for advice.

The Celtic boss is only too happy to spread his knowledge and knows that without mentors when he was coming up in the game – he would never have made it.

Rodgers has spoken in the past about Alex Ferguson giving him advice when things were looking tough or the Irishman had difficult decisions to make.

It’s great to see the gaffer wants the Scottish game to thrive with young talent.
