This time last year, Celtic would have been at the beginning of their pursuit for Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull. Having almost signed the Wishaw born player, the deal collapsed due to a serious knee injury that the Well medical staff had somehow missed.

A year on and Turnbull has only just returned back to full fitness after having yet more surgery over the lockdown period to remove pins from his knee because of the original surgery he was forced into having.

Today, it has been reported that the Scottish Champions are once again interested in the Scottish talent but also now English Premier League side, Newcastle United have entered the race for Turnbull, as reported by The Chronicle

As well as Celtic’s head of recruitment, Nicky Hammond watching Turnbull last week in a friendly against Kilmarnock, Newcastle had representatives at the same game to see the progress of the 21-year old.

It will definitely be interesting to see whether the Hoops go back in for Turnbull, as there is clearly interest in the player by Neil Lennon, but currently the club also have an abundance of players that play in a very similar position to the midfielder. This move is certainly one to watch out for over the course of the window
