Manager Neil Lennon praised a couple of his newcomers following the friendly defeat to Cluj last night.

Substitute Georgios Samaras snatched a late consolation during a 2-1 loss to the Romanians, but Lennon was acclaiming defender Virgil van Dijk and calling for a little patience over new striker Amido Balde.

“Virgil was outstanding especially in the first half at centre-back,” Lennon told the Daily Record. “I decided to give him a wee run in midfield to see how he’d fit in but he wanted to play centre-forward!

“Amido was never the finished article when we bought him,” he continued. “It’s going to take time for him to adapt to the way we play. He’s still young and raw but he has good attributes and we’ll work away at that.
