Journalist Nicolo Schira has claimed that Celtic’s number one target for the managerial position is Manchester City under-23s coach Enzo Maresca.

There have been a number of names suggested for the job in the last few weeks ever since Neil Lennon departed his role as Celtic boss, with Maresca being one of the names mentioned. Now if reports are to be believed he could be the primary target for the job.

Currently, he is in the u23s role at City and is thought to be highly rated by manager Pep Guardiola who brought him to the club back in August.

He also has experience working under Manuel Pellegrini at West Ham whilst also having spent time at clubs such as Sevilla.

To me, this could suggest that Fergil Harkin is possibly the man who will find himself in the Director of Football role and playing a part in trying to bring Maresca to the club with him also coming from Man City.

Many fans may be left slightly disappointed with an appointment like this. However, it could be an exciting project to look forward to with the club looking to move forward into the modern era in terms of infrastructure.

I am sure we are in for a few more weeks yet of managerial rumours but as it stands, Maresca appears to be the man who is leading the race.

  1. Excellent choice, especially when you see names like Benetiz, McCarthy, Moyes and Ross being bandied about.

Benitez and Moyes would bankrupt a Sheik and still have very little to show for it.

  2. Would be a great choice. He ticks all the right boxes. I’d really prefer to see a foreign manager who I hope would install some backbone and fitness into the team. For all that people hate Brendan Rodgers he at least made the team so much fitter and gave a good mental attitude ( although unfortunately not in Europe). I disagree with ones that want a total clear-out , Maresca might just be the right guy to get the best out of these players. Think part of our problem this season is playing players in their wrong position. Think this would be a forward thinking decision.
