INSTAGRAM will be taking no action against the troll who abused Celtic defender Shane Duffy and joked about his father passing away over the social media platform.

Duffy brought the abuse to light in February, citing he can take abuse but this in-particular was over the line.

At the time, Sky Sports contacted the social media platform owned by Facebook about the incident. Their reply today was underwhelming and they’ve drawn a line under it after the troll apologised for his actions.

There have to be repercussions for people who think they can say what they want to who they want on social media. The vile many are subjected to on a daily basis is becoming a bigger and bigger problem.

The day is coming where social media will have to clean up its act or risk their platforms being blocked or restricted by many.

No football player, actor or person of public interest should have to read some of the comments which come through to them.

Shane Duffy was right to bring this to light but Instagram must do more.
