Ex-Celt Scott McDonald has weighed into the rumour which suggests Celtic are interested in Oli Burke with the player being ‘aware’ of the bhoys interest.

The West Brom midfielder is set to head out on-loan during this window, the news has alerted several clubs with Millwall and Celtic being the two names which keep popping up.

Celtic are keen to bolster their squad for the second half of the season, and while they’re not necessarily in the market for a midfielder, Rodgers could be tempted.

McDonald has played for Celtic and Millwall, but when the question came up about who Oli should go to given the choice, the former striker couldn’t have been any clearer.

“If the choice is Celtic or Millwall then you pack your boots in your bag and you start running up the M6.” McDonald said as reported in The Sun.

“I don’t mean that to sound disrespectful to Millwall in any way because it’s a good club but the truth of the matter is they are really struggling this season and in relegation trouble.

“I don’t know what that would do to Oliver Burke’s confidence right now when he’s not been playing a lot of games at West Brom.

“So from a career point of view it’s a no-brainer.

“Celtic are a team who are going to dominate possession in most of the games they play and that means Oliver will get the chance to get on the ball and get the confidence back into his game.”

McDonald believes Burke could probably get a game for Millwall easier, but if he got a Celtic move, the opportunity to get into the team and be rebuilt by Brendan Rodgers is something the player should look seriously at.

“He’s going to find it harder to get into the starting 11 at Celtic but that’s the kind of challenge a young, talented boy like him should be relishing.

“He’ll have to come up here and be prepared to work hard. To find out where he fits into the team and what’s his best position.

“But if his confidence has taken a bit of a dunt over the last couple of years then Rodgers is the perfect manager for him to work with.

“This is a man with a track record of bringing the best out of individuals when they have maybe been struggling for form.”

The bhoys are trying to be very active in this transfer window with the club identifying and trying to thrash out deals for potential targets over the last week or so.

Could Oli make the trip back to Scotland and play a part in Celtic’s season?
